Forms are harder than they look
Building a good form — one that validates correctly, looks right on mobile, handles edge cases, and reliably delivers submissions — takes longer than it should. IdeyForm started as a tool to solve this for my own projects and grew into a platform worth offering to others.
The core promise: describe what you need in plain language and get a production-ready form with field validation, conditional logic, multi-step support, and a submission dashboard — without writing the boilerplate yourself.
The AI generation layer
The AI layer takes a natural language description and produces a structured form schema: field names, types, validation rules, placeholder text, and conditional display logic. The schema is then rendered by the IdeyForm component engine rather than being used directly as code, which means the AI output is sandboxed — it cannot produce arbitrary code that runs in the user's browser.
// Example AI output (simplified)
{
"fields": [
{ "name": "full_name", "type": "text", "label": "Full name",
"required": true, "minLength": 2 },
{ "name": "email", "type": "email", "label": "Email address",
"required": true },
{ "name": "company_size", "type": "select",
"options": ["1–10", "11–50", "51–200", "200+"],
"showIf": { "field": "is_business", "equals": true } }
]
}
The user can then edit the schema through a visual editor — reordering fields, adjusting validation, toggling conditional logic — before deploying the form.
Transactional email system
Every form comes with configurable transactional emails: a confirmation to the submitter, a notification to the form owner, and an optional summary digest. The email templates were designed as a unified dark inline-style system with a shared baseTemplate function that wraps any content in the brand shell. This ensures consistency across all generated emails regardless of which trigger fired them.
Emails are sent via Resend, which gives reliable deliverability, a suppression list, and webhook-based bounce handling without the operational overhead of managing an SMTP server.
Submission management
The submission dashboard gives form owners a filterable, searchable table of every submission. Export to CSV is one click. Individual submissions can be marked as reviewed, archived, or starred. Submissions from known spam IP ranges are automatically flagged for review rather than silently dropped.
Design system
IdeyForm ships with a carefully considered default design — clean, readable, accessible, and adaptable to any brand via CSS custom properties. The field components handle all the states that custom form builders typically miss: loading, error, success, disabled, read-only, character count, and password visibility toggle. The same component library powers both the form renderer and the IdeyForm dashboard itself.
Status
IdeyForm is in active development. The form generator, field validation, and submission handling are production-ready. Team collaboration and webhook integrations are in development.
